What are cosmetic injectables?

Cosmetic injectables are applications of the neuromodulator Botox® for wrinkle reduction and dermal fillers to plump and hydrate the skin. These products enhance your look and help you feel better from the outside in.

How do Botox injections work?

Botox is a neuromodulator, an injectable formulated from a purified neurotoxin that temporarily reduces the appearance of wrinkles and lines that make you look older and more serious than you actually are. The areas approved by the FDA for treatment with these injections include:

• Frown lines between the eyebrows
• Horizontal forehead lines
• Crow’s feet around the eyes
• Bunny lines on the nose
• Down-turned corners of the mouth, known as “Marionette lines”
• Pucker lines or smoker’s lines around lips

Botox temporarily blocks the nerve signals that cause contractions in your facial muscles. The constant movement of your face when you smile, squint, or frown, causes lines and wrinkles to be etched in your skin. When this muscle activity eases, wrinkles soften.

Botox application is quick and lasts three to four months. After this, you can opt for retreatments to maintain your look.

Dr. Ashtari offers some of the top dermal fillers on the market. These include the hyaluronic acid-based fillers of Juvederm®, Radiesse®, Volbella®, and Voluma®. Hyaluronic acid is a natural compound that plumps and hydrates your skin, but production diminishes with age. These fillers restore your levels of hyaluronic acid to bring back a youthful look.

Belotero® is another filler with hyaluronic acid that is specifically designed to treat moderate-to-severe etched-in lines and wrinkles.

Sculptra® stimulates your skin’s own natural collagen production. This dermal filler is known as a poly-L-lactic acid (PPLA) collagen stimulator. The injections of microparticles of PPLA are administered to the areas where they stimulate collagen production to help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume.
